2015 Rookie Preview: Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW)

Tatiana Weston-Webb – HAW, G                    Rank:  16              Proj:  14

There’s a lot to like about the solo debut on the Women’s CT this year.  Tatiana Weston-Webb may only be turning 19 years old in 2015, but her performance on last years QS proves why she belongs in the top 17.

In 2014 she boasted a 27 QSF and was constantly in the mix for a W, though her lone win came at QS #13 over Alessa Quizon, she managed 5 QA’s in the year.  Her 12.28 AHS may be nothing spectacular, but she surfed great in big conditions and at the higher CT level.  At CT #5 Fiji Women’s Pro, Tatiana barely lost R4 in overhead conditions.  Needless to say, the Hawaiian feels right at home in big barrel reef locations and the numbers support.  Her AHS gets better as wave height increases:  1-4′  =10.86 AHS;   4-6′ =10.92 AHS;   and  6-8′ =15.13 AHS, that is a serious climb.

Tatiana also shows command on her backhand, the goofy-footer’s RLD actually favors her Right at 1.06.  Partner that with a 4.58 REA last year and you’ve got a competitor who looks to sit tight on the CT, though it may be another few years before there’s room at the top.

Overall, by year’s end – barring injury – we project Tatiana Weston-Webb ranking at 14, ahead of Sage Erickson, Nikki Van Dijk and Alessa Quizon.

Surf:    Big, left, reef or beach breaks with offshore or light winds forecast; anywhere in Hawaii.  These will be her best events and if the conditions are pumping, scoop Tatiana up.

Beach:  Small, choppy beach breaks and European locations.  For now – she’s still a rookie and a lot can change.

2015 Bold Prediction:  Outranks Nikki Van Dijk by end of the year.
